How Honest should you be during a job interview?
As the saying goes, honesty is the best policy. Never say something untrue in an interview or exaggerate your skills either. If you can barely speak French, don’t say that you speak it fluently. It may impress the employer at first, but it’s bound to get you into trouble sooner or later.
As a thumb-rule… be honest in Job Interview, because in today’s social media dominated world people can find out a lot about you… there is no point in lying to get into a job… if your lie is found out… you will ruin your reputation for the long run… and reputation is everything in today’s job market.
This reminds me of a story that one of my clients told me about a man who applied for a job as a machinist. In the Job interview he stated that he was proficient in using a specialized machine. Well, this did get him the job, but when it came time to use the machine he was incompetent. We all know how that story ended… and it wasn’t with a specialized training course!
